Castlemilk Estate has been in existence for around 200 years. Today, the principal business of the Estate is letting out agricultural, residential and commercial properties. During the last few years, the Estate has undertaken major re-development projects to retain and enhance its properties so that our tenants can have the highest standard of living possible.
We have designed some pioneering forestry experiments that have garnered international attention and this drive for innovation is something we will be taking forwards into the future. Our Sitka spruce has such good growth that it is literally ‘off the charts’ in terms of conventional metrics and we hope to continue this trend and share our knowledge with others in the industry so that we can help Scotland be a world leader in timber production.
Our farms are subsistence based, with a particular focus on land-management rather than maximising output. We do not use anything to artificially enhance the land, and we make sure to never run more sheep than the land can naturally support. We are also looking to widen all the hedgerows on our farms to encourage as much bio-diversity as possible in the area. These sustainable practices are something we firmly believe in and are proud of and marks us out in the industry.
